Pengertian Simple Sentences

Simple Sentences merupakan bentuk kalimat yang hanya memiliki satu subject dan satu predikat. Kalimat yang dapat berdiri sendiri atau dengan kata lain kalimat yang mempunyai satu independent clause yang dapat dimengerti makna dan tujuannya. Simple sentence juga mengidentifikasikan satu ide pokok yang ingin disampaikan.

Simple Sentence, walau disebut demikian, bukan berarti kalimat tersebut pasti mempunyai bentuk yang pendek, bisa saja bentuk dan contoh kalimat tersebut memiliki gabungan beberapa kata atau bahkan mempunyai kata yang panjang. Simple sentence juga dapat mempunyai lebih dari satu subject dan juga bisa mempunyai lebih dari satu verb atau kata kerja. Itulah keunikan dari Simple Sentences.

Dan yang harus kita bersama ialah, Simple Sentences tidak memiliki Dependent Clause (anak kalimat). Simple Sentences hanya memiliki satu Independent Clause (induk kalimat). Pada umumnya, Simple Sentence mempunyai rumus sederhana seperti, Subject ditambah dengan Verb atau kata kerja dan juga ditambah Object. 

Sedangkan untuk kalimat yang tidak memakai Verb, disebut juga dengan kalimat Non Verbal, yang mempunyai rumus: Subject ditambah dengan Tobe (is, am, are, was, were) ditambah dengan Complement atau pelengkap (adjective / kata sifat, noun / kata benda, dan adverb / kata keterangan)
